​What is GAPP?
The Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) is a Medicaid funded program that provides private duty nursing (skilled and unskilled) services for medically fragile children under the age of 21. These services are offered at no cost to families who quality through Medicaid.

Can I get paid to care for my child?
Yes, if you are the parent, legal guardian, family of a medically fragile eligible child, and you are already providing care for you child at home, you may qualify to become a paid caregiver through the GAPP Program.

What services does GAPP cover?
GAPP may cover:

  • Personal Support Services (bathing, dressing, mobility….)

  • Private Duty Nursing (skilled and unskilled) services in the home

How Much Does it Cost?
There is no cost to families who qualify for the Medicaid GAPP Program.


What if My Child Doesn’t have Medicaid Yet?

We can help guide you through the process of applying for Medicaid, including the Katie Beckett Deeming Waiver Program, which allows medically eligible children to receive Medicaid regardless of household income.


How Long Does the GAPP Approval Process Takes?
Once all the documentation is submitted to Medicaid, the approval usually takes up to 30 business days. Our company will keep you informed during the process.

Do I Need a Nursing License to be a Paid Caregiver?
No, the GAPP Program allows non-licensed caregivers. Our company will walk you through the on-boarding process and provide all the training for the program.

What is the Commitment Once I’m Approved?

  • Logging your care hours through our system

  • Participating in caregiver check-ins and training

  • Provide care by following the treatment care plan


Is There a Limit to How Many Hours I Can Be Paid For?
Yes. The number of hours is determined by your child’s medical needs as outlined in their Plan of Care. The GAPP Medical Team will review all the submitted documentation and approve the total hours of personal care support for your child.


What Diagnoses or Conditions Qualify for GAPP?
GAPP supports a wide range of medically fragile conditions, including the following:

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Multiple Sclerosis

  • Genetic Syndromes

  • Quadriplegia (other similar conditions)

  • Muscular Dystrophy

  • Rett Syndrome

  • Spina Bifida

  • Traumatic Brain Injury

  • Autism with Behavioral Support Needs

  • Seizure Disorders

What if My Child Attends School During the Day?
GAPP hours can be scheduled around school hours, including morning, evenings, and weekends. Care plans are built to fit your family’s routine.

What if My Child Turns 21 During the Program?
GAPP services end at age 21, but we can assist in transitioning to adult services or waiver programs before your child ages out of the program.


How Often Does My Child’s Eligibility Need to Be Renewed?
Most GAPP approvals are valid for 6 months. Our agency tracks renewal dates and helps with the reauthorization process.
